Throughout your surfing classes, your instructor will be with you at all times to guide you through the process of learning to catch and ride your own waves. Our instructors are pro surfers and lifeguards. You are getting taught by the best! All surf lessons are a minimum of two hours. The success rate for students of our surf school is so high, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get up on your first surf lesson!

Small Group Or Family Surf Lessons

Our Group lessons provide ongoing instruction for both beginners and more advanced students. Lessons are broken into more and less experienced surfers so that the instruction can be tailored to the student’s skill level. We teach beginning surfing every week, while taking more advanced students’ skills to the next level. Classes are small - with a maximum ratio of up to 5:1

From Los Angeles and Orange Counties: Take Interstate 5 south to the Pacific Coast Highway/Camino Las Ramblas off-ramp (approximately 15 miles south of the Interstate 405 and 5 Interchange). As soon as you exit the freeway you will come to a fork; bear right. You are now on Pacific Coast Highway (northbound). Dana Point Harbor Drive is about 1 mile from the Freeway and is at the second traffic light. At the next light you will see a Subway Sandwiches place. OC Surf n Sport is located on the left hand side four doors up from Subway. You can park on PCH in front of the store and if there is no parking there you can park by Subway and there is also roof top parking.

From San Diego County: Take Interstate 5 north to the Beach Cities/Camino Las Ramblas off-ramp. Once you leave the freeway get into the left lane. After you pass through the tunnel you will be on Pacific Coast Highway. Continue about 3/4 mile to the second traffic light which is Dana Point Harbor Drive. Doheny Beach - The best place to learn how to surf in California!

Doheny Beach in Southern California is a beach that makes you feel like you’ve been “away from it all!”  The lovely Doheny Beach area in Dana Point (southern Orange County) is the beach for you!  It is the best beach to learn how to surf at in California.

The waves are slow paced with people of all ages from 4 to 80 surfing together. The wave provides you the perfect formula that enables you to stand up and have long exciting rides on the very first day you surf.

The Doheny State Beach, unlike many other Southern California beaches, is located off of the “main drag,” on lovely, eucalyptus tree-lined Dana Point Harbor Drive. Though the Pacific Coast Highway is very close by…including access to many businesses and restaurants, if you should need them…you don’t actually have to see any busy streets while you’re in the Dana Point Harbor/Doheny Beach area.

Relax and Get Away!

* In the nearby Marina Village, just down Dana Point Harbor Drive, you can browse through a collection of interesting shops, gaze at beautiful white yachts floating in a sparkling blue harbor, rent a kayak and paddle around the calm waters of the harbor, or dine at one of several good restaurants.

* You can head out onto Dana Point harbor’s man-made island, where you’ll find quiet, shady spots for picnicking, and a long, attractive sidewalk for strolling or jogging.

* Just a bit farther still down Dana Point Harbor Drive, you’ll come to the Dana Point Marine Institute, where you can take in exhibits, explore old-fashioned sailing ships, visit a waveless “baby beach,” or just enjoy the beautiful scenery from a pier.

Pro Bodyboarder, Instructor Eddie Solomon

My OC Surf Lesson also offers bodyboarding lessons for all ability levels and all ages.
The lessons can be as laid back or as formal as you like, with the emphasis being on learning in a fun, no pressure environment.

We run lessons all year round primarily at Salt Creek State Beach.

Bodyboarding offers a more accessible option to catching waves than surfing, it’s safer and the rewards come much quicker, whilst to master the sport at the top end the skill level is just as high as surfing. (check out the video below)

Each lesson includes two hours of instructions plus bodyboard, swim fins and wetsuit rental for the whole day so you can enjoy your new skills after your lesson.

Anyone can learn to bodyboard!

Most people can learn basic bodyboarding fairly quickly. You can go from riding whitewash to actually riding a wave much faster than with surfing. The more advanced maneuvers like spinners and rollos come after more practice.

Literally anybody, as long as you can swim. If you’re younger than eight you need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian as well. The upper age limit is open to anybody that feels they fancy a go.

Coaches

Our team of coaches includes pro bodyboarder Eddie Solomon, Salt Creek local Mike David, and sometimes guest coaches such as 2X World Champion Andre Botha.

Rates

Rates are the same as surf lessons.

$160 for 1 person (Includes all day bodyboard/swim fins & wetsuit, and 1 Instructor for 2 hours). Each additional hour $60.

$180 total for 2 people (Includes all day bodyboard/swim fins & wetsuit, and 1 Instructor for 2 hours). Each additional hour $50 per person.

Each additional person will be $80 for two hours.
Each additional hour $50 per person.
